How to Backup Any Document to a USB Thumb Drive Or External Hard Drive

I will be explaining how to backup any file or folder on a USB thumb drive. This will allow you to restore your computer to an earlier state of maintenance of a safe copy of your data. additional flexibility for the thumb drive also allows you to carry data over a friend's house, so you can let them listen to their new mix, or perhaps a photo of a family holiday at a relative house for rent. The best part is 99% of USB thumb drives on the market in 99% of computers on the market, so "getting them" on another person's machine is a snap.

First, of course, you'll need to buy a USB thumb drive. For most users drive less than 8 gigabytes (or "performance") in size should be sufficient for your needs. Of course, if you're in amateur photography then you May want to consider something a little bigger. For the most part of the brand is not a concern, although I should say, San Disk brand is considered one of the best.

Once you have a thumb drive to go ahead and plug it into your computer. Provided you have Windows XP or later should be automatically installed and setup after a few moments. To confirm go to "My Computer" and check whether you have seen a new entry in the "Removable Storage Devices" section. As long as you can see the new drive listed here you can proceed to the next part.

for now is the fun part, scroll to the document you want to backup. To send them to the new drive simply right click on the file and point your mouse to "Send To " menu you should see a pop-out. In the menu you'll see the drive in the list, simply left click on it. Windows will move your data to you! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

If you have a large amount of files you want to move, save yourself some time. Right-click the folder, and not as above, point to "Send To" and then left click on your new drive. This will move the folder and all documents contained in it to disk.

If this all seems too complicated do not worry, after two or three times it will become second nature. Of course, this works well only if you want to save some documents, if you want to keep up to date backup of your entire hard disk you want to look into a program like Carbon or Mozy. For a small annual fee they install a program on your computer. Whenever your machine is idle to backup your data on their servers. If your computer should crash for any reason, simply run the restore disk and reinstall the software Carbone. After that, just a few clicks of the mouse and back up and running.
