Why do Canon not found an affordable way that the camera LCD display readable in the open is a mystery. technology is available, as I've seen it on many marine electronic products. I think that Canon is assumed that most of the pictures taken with the A650IS will be done in. At least they could start working, that would be added to the brightness of the dial, so that users can crank the screen when outside.
Of course there is the possibility of using the viewfinder frame your shots. You should be aware though, that with this and many PowerShots, the viewfinder is not completely accurate. You'll find that your pictures are about 20-25% higher than what you saw through the viewfinder A650IS. Something to be aware when snapping the shutter.
Another thing I do not get too excited about the PowerShot A650 is a wide range of ISO format available. While it is true that you can shoot up to ISO 3200, in reality, all the images at 400 ISO or above are going to be excessively noisy. Depending on the subject of the picture, and what to do with the images you'll be able to push their luck a bit here.
While these issues are not completely cursed with a Canon PowerShot A650IS, they do not help make a strong case for one or. Before you pass the final verdict, here are a few points for reflection as well:
- LCD is handy when shooting fast continuous shots
- zoom (6X) extrapolates some softness in the corners
- see barrel distortion in a broad way
- color fringing in some photos after the expansion
- the battery cover is awkward (to be separated from the memory compartment)
- should have connectors neck strap for this camera weight
